Durability in Real World
Applications- With passing years
the Biometric Fingerprint Security Technology has been
steadily improving. At present this technology is gaining momentum and is used
in many mainstream applications including user authentication for home and
office security.
Can the Sensors be Tricked- Unlike seen in movies, tricking the sensors is a very
difficult and unlikely task to accomplish. The devices today are very highly
advanced and use high-tech silicon sensors to capture 3D images. They are
highly specialized in recognizing the patterns of a true finger and detecting
false replicas.
Whether Privacy is
Compromised- There cannot be any question of exposing one’s privacy as these
devices does not save the full image of the fingerprint. Instead it saves only
a template which provides only a mathematical representation of the unique
aspects of the finger that is enough to make the system reliable but not enough
for someone to duplicate the original fingerprint.
Complexity in
Authentication Process - These devices come as a complete unit with both the Fingerprint Scanner and the co-processor. They are capable of capturing and matching the
fingerprint information without ever having to send the information to an
outside source. This combined approach increases the security of the system as
well as privacy protection for the user.
Whether Woks if the
Original Authorization Finger is Injured- To deal with such
situations the lock is equipped with an emergency code which is unique to each
individual user. The authorized fingerprint can be cancelled at any time by
providing the emergency code.
Comparison to an Ordinary
Bolt Lock- The Biometric Fingerprint Door Lock without doubt is safer than
any key lock available on the market. There is always the chance of keys
getting stolen, lost or duplicated which might allow unwanted intruders access
inside your home. A fingerprint lock, however, is unique to every
individual that cannot be lost, stolen or duplicated to compromise the safety
of one’s valuables.
What if Battery runs Out- Testing on average, under
normal usage, the batteries used in these locks should last about three years.
The locks are powered by four 1.5V AA batteries, which allows for approximately
8000 openings and closings. However, if the batteries do start to lose
their power, it will give six warning beeps with every opening and closing of
the door. From that point, approximately 150 more openings and closings
can be done before the batteries fully run out. So that is an adequate
time to replace the batteries. Battery replacement is quick and
simple. One need not worry of losing the stored fingerprints and
emergency codes when the batteries run out. The data will still be safely
stored in the computer’s memory once batteries are replaced.
